I love this quote from the book, How to Win Friends and Influence People: “You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” When talking to other people practice being interested in things that they like.
Here are some conversation starters you can practice using to show interest in other people:
1. Where are you going on vacation this summer?
2. Where do you work? Tell me about your job.
3. When you're not at work, how do you like to do?
4. What good books are you currently reading?
5. Tell me about your favorite T.V. show.
6. Do you have a pet? If they say "yes" follow up with ....Tell me about your dog, cat, fish, etc.
7. Where do you go to school? Tell me about your favorite teachers and classes.
8. Would you rather watch sports or play sports?
9. What’s your favorite restaurant? Why do you like eating there?
10. Tell me about your family.
Good Luck with your conversation practice!
